Reviewing: match hits

You can review the match hits for an individual or entity by navigating to the ‘Verifications’ tab for the individual or entity within the case. Hits will be recorded within the Screening section. A summary of the sources matched against will be visible under each screening category with a match.

Click on the sources to open up the screening report to review the exact results the individual or entity was matched against. This will open up in a new tab.

If there are no matching results to the individual or entity, you will not be able to click into the screening report.

Interpreting: Match results

Search information

If the Search Term entered matches with one or more entities in the screening database you will see a summary of the information about this entity, this is what each element means:

  • Matched (X) – The source type the entity appears on. In the example below we can see that the user searched for ‘Gary Rex Lauck’ and there is a ‘Gary Lauck’ who is on a PEP list in multiple PEP categories in the first match. A second match with ‘Garry Lauck” who has adverse media articles in multiple categories.
  • Relevance – This explains how close the matching result is to the search term, e.g. an ‘Exact Match’ or an ‘AKA Match’ (AKA = ‘also known as’, and covers other names/aliases the entity is known by). The further away the less relevant the hit is and the higher the chance of the match being a False Positive.
  • Entity Type – Displays the type of entity searched against (e.g. individual, company, etc.)
  • DOB – Displays the Individual’s date of birth

Entity information

If you need to view more information for an individual or entity, click the name. The ‘Entity Information’ will display the following:

Listing Types section:

This shows the name of the entity and its listing type. There will be three tabs to choose from, Key data, adverse media and documents.

Key information:

This will show the following: the full name of the entity (this may be different from the search term you have searched for, please see AKA)

Entity Type:

This can be a person, company, organisation, vessel or aircraft.

AKA:

These are names that the entity can be known as. This is collected from various sources we have regarding this entity. If you were to search by an entity's AKA, you would still get a match for that specific entity.

Adverse Media Tab:

This will have links to the adverse media published about the entity. You have a link to the article and also a snippet of that article to see if it is of interest to you.

Individual & Entity Match Statuses & Best Practices for Using Match Status

No Match

This is returned by default when there aren't any results available. If the initial search comes back as ‘Match’ and none of the results are the persons or entities that you are looking for, it is recommended to use False Positive rather than No Match.

In Progress

This is the status assigned to all individuals and entities when no screening hit has been conducted.

Match

This is returned by default when at least one individual or entity hit is available. You can update the match status as appropriate once reviewed.

You can use this match status to mark a search that has returned a person or an entity that is a True Positive Match.

Possible Match

Use this match status to mark a search that has returned the person or the company that you were NOT looking for even though the entities returned matched the search criteria used. This is typically used to mark the match as a False Positive Match.

Not Needed

Use this for individuals or entities which do not require screening hits to be conducted.
